Portland-based electronic musician Natasha Kmeto is finding her voice in more ways than one. While her 2013 release Crisis put the emphasis on layered synth parts and subtle mood changes, her new record Inevitable is all about soul. Kmeto’s robust vocals dominate the mix, and her personal lyrics are rawer and more confident than ever.
Inevitable also marks a successful stylistic shift from post-dubstep to something that sounds more like synthpop. Kmeto, who writes, plays, and produces all of her own music, recently finished a stint of tour dates with TV On The Radio and says the experience of playing big sold-out venues drove her to make her sound hookier. "I wanted to write the closest thing to a pop record that I could," she told OPB's April Baer in a recent interview. Events in her personal life have emboldened her as well — she recently become engaged to the woman who inspired the lyrics of Inevitable.
Natasha Kmeto’s “Inevitable” was released September 18. 2015.
