In comparison to their debut, it's a meatier, more beat-driven sound found on Nurses' new Dracula-- and if the results seem like those of vastly different circumstances that's because they are.

Whereas 2009's Apple's Acre saw the band's founding duo (Aaron Chapman, John Bowers) creating lo-fi-psych nuggets in an Idaho Falls attic and later a Portland basement, the new effort feels more focused, infused with a brighter, almost tropical vibe throughout. That change might have something to do with the addition in the interim of drummer John Mitchell, but was almost certainly brought about by both the scene of the recording (the trio holed up in a house on the Oregon coast for its creation) and the burgeoning confidence of a young band (the record is their second for indie stalwart Dead Oceans and follows extensive touring).

Nurses joined us recently at Mississippi Studios for an extended set from Dracula, and talked the challenges and process of recording their second album, the meaning behind its title and their upcoming tour.
