A few days before playing  Pickathon 2008, San Francisco singer-songwriter Sean Hayes visited our studios for this session. He talked about growing up in North Carolina -- the origins of his interest in traditional music -- the great jazz singers you might hear in his vocal style, and the idea of a magical symbol, or "sigil." Hayes' latest CD, Flowering Spade, is named for one, which Hayes designed.
