Studio Sessions
Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside in-studio, 12-9-09
Recording engineer: Steven Kray
One might say that Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside are fast-tracking it. The Portland-based quartet released a debut EP just last spring and almost immediately found themselves opening for the Avett Brothers at the Crystal Ballroom. They followed this up with more opening slots for the Avetts on tour, and, finally, did the same for two sold out New Year's shows in Asheville and Atlanta. The band seems to be taking it all in stride, however, with an "aw shucks" character that is readily apparent in Ms. Ford herself, an Asheville, NC transplant who seems to channel the great and/or idiosyncratic voices of female singers past.
We talked to the band about their origins, their fast success, and plans for a full-length debut.
Don't miss Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside performing a series of free shows in the McMenamins Great Northwest Music Tour May 12-21, 2010.
*UPDATE: Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside were just voted "Best New Band" in the annual Willamette Week poll.

Nice ungiddied interview, however this band has to be heard live to be fully appreciated as their thin almost 50's style instrumentation didn't come across as well in studio as it does live. Few bands are that unique but they stand out.
