Joan as Police Woman in-studio, 9-19-08

Joan as Police Woman is the vehicle for the music of Joan Wasser, who stopped by our studios while on tour to support her second release, To Survive. The effort follows her 2006 debut, but she's hardly a newcomer having spent over a decade prior playing in bands like The Dambuilders and Those Bastard Souls, not to mention backing up the likes of everyone from Lou Reed and Sheryl Crow to Rufus Wainwright  and Antony & the Johnsons.

We were treated to keys and drums renditions of Wasser's tunes from she and drummer Parker Kindred, and we spoke with her about the long road taken to Joan as Police Woman, the effect that her early studies of classical violin continue to have on her music, and the meaning of "punk rock R&B," among other things.
