Postal Service Returns, Expands

A decade on, the circumstances and machinations that produced the music of The Postal Service (and the name itself) seem so quaint. Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello and Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard famously mailed musical ideas back and forth, a long distance collaboration that resulted in the duo's debut and lone release-- 2003's Give Up. An unlikely smash hit, the record recently went platinum and has kept Sub Pop floating along nicely for the past decade.

Even as the version that delivers your mail is set to stop Saturday delivery, the musical version of The Postal Service is back, readying an expanded edition of their debut for release in April with tour dates to match. The Give Up reissue includes a remastered version of the original artifact and 15 bonus tracks, two of which are new songs. Here's one of those: "A Tattered Line of String."

Those upcoming tourdates will also feature Jenny Lewis in the mix (who, along with Jen Wood, contributed vocals to the debut) and have just been expanded. Note the Portland date, July 17th at the....Rose Garden.
