Not that Old Light has ever really tried to keep it a secret, but if you saw beards + guitar jams and made the kneejerk leap to the band being another musical attempt at recapturing some hippie shangri-la of lore then, brother, a dis-service has been done. The truth is, the Portland quartet led by (a now beardless) Garth "Steel" Klippert is a lot more Ozzy than Jerry; there may be harmonies, dual drummers and an autoharp, but rest assured none of it will be done with bare feet.
The band headlines our PDX/Rx showcase at Mississippi Studios tomorrow (Saturday night) with Hungry Ghost and (late additions!) Aerial Ruin, and from the sounds of things have some new material to unleash. Why, here's one we might expect now, along with a face-melting (really, wait for it) video from the band and director Karl Koch to boot! Go towards the light.....
For more, we'd also encourage you to check out one our favorite sessions we've ever recorded-- Old Light laying it down in our studio last year.
No less likely to make the paint peel is opener Hungry Ghost-- the trio made up of Sara Lund, Andrew Price and Lorca Wood released their self-titled debut earlier this year.
It's another great night of free music ahead-- see you at Mississippi Studios Saturday night!
