Hear New Mazzy Star

News of the split of Sonic Youth's Kim and Thurston got you down? The R.E.M. disbanding a fresh reminder of your mortality? Do not fear, older people and those otherwise carrying a torch for bands circa 1990, there is Hope (Ms. Sandoval to you).

Mazzy Star, the band led by the singing of Hope Sandoval and fuzzed out guitars of David Roback, have announced their return with a double a-side come back single due this week. SQUEE! Now, I may be looking back through rose-colored 90's nostalgia glasses here, but to refresh, the band put out three records of uncommon hazy, languorous beauty beginning with 1990's She Hangs Brightly and ending in 1996 with Among My Swan. "Fade Into You" is still a staple of AC radio, though I would contend is one of those rare songs that can attain such status while still being a great song.

So what does the first output in fifteen years from Mazzy Star sound like? Glad you asked...

"Common Burn"

The singles are available for purchase today, with plans for a new Mazzy Star full-length due some time in 2012.
