There's not much to report from the Forbiden Friends' debut show at Backspace in downtown Portland. The band played four songs and they all basically sounded like less-polished, slightly hushed new Thermals' songs. All three members of The Thermals were on stage, each taking on slightly different roles than they do in their other band. There was also a fourth member playing bass. It all felt kind of lighthearted with the band rocking those navy blue t-shirts with hearts on them. They looked like they were having fun. Perhaps it was a good warm-up before their record release show on March 8th at Valentine's.
Ted Leo headlined the evening playing about twenty songs from across his catalog. It was the last date of his solo tour and the New Jersey-native closed with Bruce Springteen's "Dancing in the Dark" - creating a mini-trend of touring acts closing with Springsteen covers in Portland. Who will be next?
