Performances from The Dead Weather and Harlem at the Crystal Ballroom, and Grand Archives, S and Casey Neill & the Norway Rats at Mississippi Studios (not to mention a number of fine locals elsewhere) highlight tonight's live action around Portland. I find most music I like very quickly isn't the type of music that stands the test of time. If it does then it may fit into the realm of classic - at least in my mind. Run On Sentence grows on you - each time you listen ... like LIVE or Neil Young. I'm not as big a fan of his latest (darker) music as I am of his earlier work but the more you listen to that the bigger a fan you'll become.

Funny, Ranjit, that's exactly the way I feel about hearing new music for the first time. I'm always a little skeptical about the staying power of something if I immediately love it (except in those rare, exceptional cases). I'm finding that the new Run On Sentence wears well with repeated listens.

I'm no neuro-scientist but I think there's something to be said for more complex music taking longer to congeal and take hold in the brain ... though I'm not sure how it explains how sometimes even simple music or the right vocal can do the same.
