It's your chance to win more tickets tonight-- this time to next weekend's Uprising at the Aladdin Theater featuring the Oregon Ballet Theater, Weinland and Laura Gibson in collaboration. Tune in during the 8 o'clock hour for the email giveaway.

Also tonight, Jamie Lidell plays in-studio for us from his new album Compass, and we'll look ahead to the week's live action, which includes an upstart Canadian by the name of Neil Young, as well as performances from Antibalas, Blitzen Trapper, Jesca Hoop, Bassekou Kouyate, Admiral Radley and more.

Yah, I brought about 8 people from my Indie music group and wasn't sure how accessible his songs would be to them but they loved 'em. I look forward to your studio session. Also, a friend just had me listen to this female vocalist Shenandoah Davis from Seattle who's playing right now at Kelly's Olympian. I wasn't sure what to make of her classically trained voice at first but I kinda wish I had the energy to go see her show live.

thanks, my fave

I haven't heard her yet, but I know she's been recently collaborating with the Portland Cello Project. I'll have to keep an ear out...

Me too!

Man, that AgesandAges song really rocks. I just love it. Never seen them, so psyched to catch their set at PDX Pop Now! in a couple of weeks.

Ok, JP. I checked out that Catherine Feeny zombie video. Nice song, but I might not have made the association with zombies until seeing the video. Now I can never hear the song again without some disturbing images. Thanks for that (I guess). Downloaded the Calexico set from Nurnberg. Love those guys.

Yes! Couldn't agree more. I'd been waiting for something new from Tim Perry ever since Pseudosix folded. Definitely one of the things I'm most looking forward to at PDX Pop.

I saw the amazing show by Run on Sentence last night for Justin Hamman's CD release - and am now convinced he's the best songwriter in PDX. Besides the great show - loved all the musicians who play with him too - I was struck by the fact that Ritchie Young from Loch Lomond was out there on the floor before the show, just handing out home-made appetizers he cooked up. Where else but in Portland?!

Jeremy Petersen / July 18, 2010
Glad you liked-- he turned in a pretty stellar set for our session coming up, too. Ritchie is actually one of the people behind the running of The Woods, so that makes some sense, but there definitely is a familial feel to a lot of the local indie-folk scene (or whatever you want to label it). Run On Sentence as they were for us featured members of Loch Lomond, Nick Jaina's band, and Pancake Breakfast, among others.

Beck's Record Club that was alluded to during tonight's Jamie Lidell interview is an on-going covers project from Beck and a bunch of his friends-- members of Wilco, Feist, St. Vincent, Joey Waronker, Devendra Banhart, Lidell himself and others. Leonard Cohen, INXS and, most recently, Yanni have all been covered. Lidell was involved in the song-for-song re-creation of Skip Spence's "Oar"-- you can find it here: http://www.beck.com/recordclub/index.php/category/skip-spence-oar

The live version of Calexico's "Crystal Frontier" we played tonight comes from a new digital recording called 'Live in Nuremberg'. They're giving it away for free here!: http://soundcloud.com/cashmusic/sets/calexico-live-in-nuremberg
