Deer Tick Plays Letterman

From the Miller High Life-fueled bedroom recordings of a Rhode Island teenager to Late Night with David Letterman on the Tiffany network (and a stop by our studios somewhere in between)-- John McCauley and Deer Tick made their national TV debut last night. Playing from their new Black Dirt Sessions release NO! upset! Playing back-catalog staple "Baltimore Blues No. 1" (found on 2007's War Elephant debut), they nailed it as these things go, eliciting a "That was great!" from Dave.

Much to his credit, McCauley continues to approach it all with the same frank, devil-may-care attitude he showed during our interview with him last fall. The band recently posted a parody of Pitchfork's middling review of their new record with an even less flattering one of their own. Gauche? Maybe, but that's why it's refreshing.
