Sasquatch!: Words and Images from Day 1

Our intrepid, embedded eyes and ears on the Sasquatch! scene, Sharon Greenfield, forwarded this dispatch from ground zero, The Gorge in George...

The Hold Steady rocked it loud to an appreciative crowd. This band attracts a rabid following, and on the first day of the festival they brought it. It was a pit-full of fans, crying with emotion while singing along to lead singer Craig Finn's literary life stories-- a Pabst in one hand and the other around their honey. It was an afternoon show to remember.

We caught up with Portland's own gestalt rock band Nurses on Saturday for a few words. (look for the interview soon on the website) Vocalist and keyboardist John Bowers and percussionist James Mitchell horsed around in the gestalt space where band member Aaron Chapman would be.

Festival-goers enjoyed what may prove to be the only appearance of late spring sun of the weekend while waiting for The National to take the stage.

Over a thousand people surrounded the Miike Snow set on Saturday afternoon.

See the rest of the photos from Sasquatch Saturday here.

More to come from George over the next couple of days, of course. In the meantime, we'll be tweeting a bit here (with more photos).
