Alright, quickly now, these were assembled with you in mind (yes, you)....

1- Peter Wolf Crier is not former J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf's new emo band. Sorry (although he does have a new record out). Instead, it's the duo out of Minneapolis made up of Peter Pisano and Brian Moen. Their debut out soon on Jagjaguwar is called Inter-Be.

2- South Africa's BLK JKS follow up the debut full-length they put out last year with a new EP out June 8th on Secretly Canadian. Thus far, the band has become known for combining rock with traditionally "global" elements, but on the title track here they sound something less like a progressive rock band.

3- Also out in June is the return of a personal favorite in the Pernice Brothers. Goodbye, Killer will be the first release in four years from Joe Pernice's band, coming on the heels of the solo covers record and companion to his novel he put out last year called It Feels So Good When I Stop. Based on this first track, it seems some kind of sonic shift must have taken place. It's the Pernice Brothers, yet different. While you're waiting, you may as well revisit our session with Pernice recorded last summer.

4- Just this week the Austin, TX band Voxtrot announced their breakup following one full-length, a smattering of EPs and a whole lot of blog buzz. Their upcoming tour will be their swansong, in other words, and with no new recordings on the horizon this song might serve a similar purpose. "Whiskey & Water" comes from the new 180-track digital benefit compilation from Buffetlibre and Amnesty International known as PEACE.

5- After a fine debut out last year on Portland's own Bladen Co. label, The Love Language has made the jump to the indie majors with a sophomore release on Merge slated for July. They also played one of the better live shows I saw in 2009-- the good news is they still sound great on record. Libraries is out July 13th, why not listen to our session recorded with them just over a year ago in the meantime?

To the weekend then!

JP, excellent set going on right now, starting with Camera Obscura and moving through RL Burnside, Buddy Guy, Sarah Jaffe, etc... Great stuff.
