Pavement Redux Underway

Even if you're one of those who views the recent spate of rock reunions with no small amount of suspicion (and you have good reason, in some instances), the announcement last year of a 2010 Pavement reunion likely left those of you who ever blasted that old copy of Slanted and Enchanted or Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain from the tape player for weeks on end-- and more still those of you who have listened through the years, but never actually seen the band live because it was no longer a possibility-- a bit giddy with anticipation. Like the girl in The National's "So Far Around the Bend," who was "praying for Pavement to get back together," you now have a new reason to live.

The first of the reunion dates is in the books, going down today/night in Auckland, New Zealand, of all places. It's the first of many, many the world over, including festivals Sasquatch, Coachella, Pitchfork, and ATP UK. A Portland date remains conspicuously absent from the itinerary. Here's video from Auckland in handy medley form:  "Shady Lane," "Range Life," "Unfair," "Stop Breathin'," "Goldsoundz," "Cut Your Hair," and "Spit On a Stranger," in rapid succession.

Pavement ist rad. Still.
