Depending on your particular tastes in such matters, Boy Eats Drum Machine's Jon Ragel has either placed himself in the middle of your peculiar fantasy or your worst nightmare in his new video for "ABQ." Ragel dons the zebra stripes of the referee (although he mostly just dances) amongst the Rose City Rollers' estrogen-charged battles, laying down beats while highly-mobile beat downs are being served around him. The footage actually comes straight from the new documentary Brutal Beauty: Tales of the Rose City Rollers, which is where the song made its debut.
On record, the song appears on the upcoming Hoop + Wire, out soon on Tender Loving Empire and celebrated Saturday night (that's tomorrow!) at the Doug Fir with openers Finn Riggins and the Brothers Young. It's a chance to catch BEDM's unique performance, which borders on performance art as Ragel's one man act tackles turntables, saxophone, sampler, vocals and percussion. For a taste, take in our session with Boy Eats Drum Machine recorded a while back.
