Jeff Hanson, Minnesota-based musician, died unexpectedly and was found on Friday, in his St. Paul apartment, apparently of an accidental fall at the age of 31. He had released his third album, Madam Owl, last August on the label Kill Rock Stars, who had this to say:
We are deeply shocked and saddened to report that Jeff Hanson passed away on June 5, 2009 in his home, a victim of a terrible accident. Jeff has been a part of the KRS family since 2003.
Jeff Hanson was an amazing artist, a riotously funny person, and a good friend. Everyone at Kill Rock Stars feels that we were privileged to put out his records. We will miss him tremendously. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
Jeff was known for his songs' beautiful and emotive lyrics and melodies, which were carried by his pure and feminine voice. He had visited Portland only two weeks prior to play a show at the Someday Lounge. We here at opbmusic were privileged to meet him and hear his music in a small setting, back in September when he came in for a session. He will be missed.

I think this is a most unfortunate name for a record label.
