Very interesting session. Weinland's '08 release made it to 4 in my best of the year list, but it wasn't always so - in fact I almost put aside after first listen. I suspect the new stuff will be similar - getting better and having more impact with more listens, a 'grower' as we Brits call 'em. I recommend people jump in and buy, it'll be strong. And I LOVE that tUnE-YArdS song (I have it) - excellent.

Yes, I think it is a grower.....but then I'm thinking that about everything I'm liking these days, so maybe it's a phase. I, too, recommend. tUnE-YArdS is interesting, and I say that based on the two tracks I've heard. That TLE blow-out May 16th is going to be something, eh?

Interesting little Rap influenced sequence, not my fav Beastie Boys track, but I know you 30 somethings went to college on it! In that genre, and local, something from Sleep & Zelly Rock might be good - they are talented, use intelligence over vulgarity and have a bit of 'Old School' influence, hey you could also play 3RD Base sometime: a real old school PDX rap band way back when.

Yes, a little personal old-school Beastie's nostalgia for me there. There is no bad Beastie Boys, is there? Hip-hop is an area we haven't explored enough, and I know there's a lot of good to be had right here in Portland. We've been playing a bit of Sapient (of Sandpeople) in recent months and that's done well, and I'm always glad to hear something new from Hurtbird, but we need to dig deeper still.

I agree -- I love how the Beastie Boys' older tunes seem to be undergoing a bit of a resurrection of late. Lots of nostalgia there, even for this forty-something girl. Also in the nostalgia category, do you remember the very clever De La Soul, from the late 1980s? I loved them back in the day - worth checking out, I think. They might be a bit dated now, but then again, maybe they will stand the test of time. I heard some MIA on your online stream a week or two ago and appreciated that. Would definitely love to hear more well-done hip-hop on opbmusic.
