It goes without saying that we can hardly wait for the upcoming album from Neko Case, due March 3rd on Anti. Middle Cyclone is the fifth studio album from Case and first in three years, and it finds her joined in the mix by the likes of M. Ward, Garth Hudson, Jon Rauhouse, and Sarah Harmer, among others, along the way. Those are more or less the details we've had up to this point-- details which, when combined with the cover art, make for what could be the greatest album ever made (but maybe we're just putting too much emphasis on the cover art).
In any (ahem) case, the first single from Middle Cyclone, the man-eating "People Got a Lotta Nerve," has just been made available for free, along with an extra giveaway that makes this win a win/win. Seems that for every blog that posts the new song and/or every iLike user who adds it to their profile, Case and Anti will make a cash donation to Best Friends Animal Society. Full details are here. Wow. She sings, looks great while doing it, and sees to the down and out Spots and Fuzzballs of the world with her hard-earned cash-- all in a recession. Umm, purr? Let's all watch together....
As for the song, it's a two and half minute slice of nice that finds Neko comparing herself to a killer whale who takes "half your leg and both your lungs," before heading into the refrain, "I'm a man man man, man man man eater..." Somehow I still find it cuddly. One guesses it might have been called "Maneater" if not for the confusion it may have caused for some who mistook it for a Hall & Oates cover. But I digress. If you have a blog, and chances are you do, you might consider posting this.
